Meet Stephanie:
I am above all a worldwide conservationist. I do this through hunting, education, and land conservation. I believe strongly in passing all three of these down to future generations, and in doing so, insuring the future of our sport and lifestyle.
Stephanie is the President of the Austin Chapter of Safari Club International and a member of National Rifle Association, Safari Club International, Safari Club International Foundation Sables, National Wild Turkey Federation, Dallas Safari Club, Austin Woods and Waters Club, and Ducks Unlimited, and is the Texas State Co-Coordinator for Prois Hunting and Field Apparel for Women.
Contest Entry Essay:
I became an avid big game hunter in 2000, and have hunted and/or fished 14 countries on 4 continents, collecting over 55 species of big game animals. Also active in fishing and bowfishing, as well as duck, goose, dove, and upland bird hunting. Hunting is my passion. It is my escape from the daily grind. As such, I take it very seriously. It is a responsibility to be a hunter. A responsibility to be ethical, to present hunting in the best light in the public eye, as well as to educate non-hunters about hunting, and why it is beneficial to wildlife, habitat, and humanity.
I do my best to prepare myself physically and mentally before each hunt. I practice with whichever weapon I plan to utilize, and visualize hunting scenarios so that I will be prepared for any eventuality. We have a responsibility to only take a shot we feel will be a kill shot, and we need to know our limitations (both personal and limitiations of the weapons being utilized), so that we make clean and quick kills, with respect for the animal's life. I research the area we are hunting and research the animals we are targeting to learn everything I can about them.
Another responsibility I feel we have as hunters is the responsibility to the animals, all animals, the ones we attempt to harvest, as well as others. It all works together. We cultivate our small ranch specifically to benefit wildlife. We plant grains, I have an apiary (beehives) which pollinate the plants on and around my ranch to feed us and the animals. It is all a big circle. If we have judicious use of our natural resources, they will be here for the future generations.
I am also very passionate about and work for, our rights to hunt and fish. We are fighting a battle here, and we all need to step forward and do our part to ensure our hunting heritage continues. All of these things together are what make me a hardcore huntress. It's all part of the bigger picture.
