RCG Product Review- XXX Agra Floatant
Over the years I've been frustrated trying to find a decent fly floatant. Well, I think I may have found it, XXX Agra! I stumbled upon it at my local fly shop last summer and figured, why not? I've tried so many other products this can't be any worse. Of course the label made me laugh, with a warning that says: If your fly stays up for more than 4 hours consult your local fly shop! Well, my fly didn't last 4 hours, but I caught about a dozen trout on our local river on the one fly until it came apart! Most flies will cease to float after catching one fish. All I had to do was dry the fly on my shirt (it's handy) and it was floating high and dry again. Even on the river which is now flowing high and fast, the line may pull the fly under, but it will pop right back up.
The instructions say to submerge the fly in the solution and allow it to dry. I waited several hours and my flies didn't seem to look or feel dry. I've since used a soft brush to apply the solution before I take the fly off the vise and that has been working well. It smells and feels like lighter fluid, so I prefer to pre-treat my flies either from the vise or a few days before fishing to ensure they are dry. A product probably better used at home and not kept in your vest.
I am in love with this stuff! So far the best floatant I've ever used.
