What is your Hunting Ritual
What is your hunting ritual
A week before my bigger planned hunts I begin by checking my gear-a must for anyone going out into the wild hunting yonder
7 days before the big Day
I pull my backpack out of the closet stand up in the corner of the room and begin by throwing things I need on it (clothes, gloves, etc)
After two days of "collecting" I grab the entire pile, gut my back and start categorizing things gloves, hats, extra pair of wool socks electronics- -charging of and checking batteries and bulbs of flashlights, GPS.
Survival- Matches, and other ways to start a fire, a tarp or survival blanket, knives with extra blades and/or sharpener.
First aid kit (small but mighty always filled with more items than what it comes with including, benadryl, extra band aides, super-glue and duct tape)
A few munchies, gum, and something for quick energy
A bone saw, rope, disposable gloves and game bags, a small amount of lotion and soap and toilet paper/kleenex, game calls and optics, a pen, a pair of small folding scissors.
My License I double check the dates and species, Hunters ed card and stamps
A solar charger for my phone or GPS that attaches to outside of pack
After carefully re-packing I place the pack in the corner again with a piece of paper on top and a sharpie. Now for the next few days I'll double check my gear for the vehicle---cooler, jack, shovel, straps etc.
And as I am still thinking of the up coming hunt I'll add things to that paper (ammo) things to double check, did I remember this and that. And will check for my license 4-5 more times, a knife and my binoculars.
The night before I am usually this nervous ball of energy checking the weather, my clothing, my gear and my license, knife and binoculars. I have gone over the list so many times that I can not think of one more thing.
This hunting ritual has gone on like this for years its my ritual its how I prepare.
