Bear Teriyaki Stir Fry
I never thought I would enjoy bear. It was such an out of the ordinary meat and we have only had it once in my household growing up. That was until my brother, James, waited nearly 14 years to earn enough Wisconsin bear points to harvest his own back in fall of 2016.
James was able to harvest his black bear in Price County, Wisconsin with his Mathews bow. The bear weighed in at roughly 120# but it was still enough for me to make this wonderful meal and then some. And that's what hunting should be all about: families providing for each other. At deer camp that season, we grilled up the tenderloin and I received 3 of the legs for my boyfriend and I to cook up. Here's my favorite recipe we threw together. Keep in mind you can substitute the bear meat with any meat you desire.
Ingredients:
1# cubed bear trimmings
1 cup quinoa
2 cups water
1 floret broccoli
6oz sugar snap peas
1# shredded carrots
1# sliced mushrooms
3 sliced peppers
3 Tbsp minced garlic
5 Tbsp teriyaki sauce
Instructions:
Brown meat with preferred seasonings, oil, garlic, and teriyaki sauce. Make sure to leave enough teriyaki sauce for veggies.
Boil 2 cups water then add 1 cup quinoa. Let simmer for about 15 minutes or until water is absorbed.
Chop veggies and fry in separate pan with oil and teriyaki sauce.
Add bear meat into veggie skillet for a few minutes then dish up and enjoy!
